I turned 31 last Tuesday, January 16, 2007. I got several text greeting from my family and friends. I only have 3 friends who greeted me. From the 216 friends on my friendster only 3 has remembered my birthday. Maybe they do not have their birthday alerts on.
I never learned to celebrate my birthday because I am a person who avoids being the center of attention, I shy away from getting attention to myself, I have a tendency to perceive others as “papansin” and I would never label myself that.
My last birthday was a Monday and it was my first training day at Etelecare because I applied as a call center agent. I could never say no when they told me that the first day of training is on January 16. For fear that they will never re-schedule the training, I agreed to start that day.
I was vacant for 2 months because I retired from my work November 2005 and the training was January 2006. We had a small celebration, we had the food catered , I invited some of my friends and officemates, mostly Irwin’s friends and my officemates. My friends from college weren’t able to make it because it is weekday.
Mostly our officemates came because they have a car and they went straight to Irwin’s house ( I do not want to call it our house because it is not ours, so what do I call it?). It has been their habit of going to Irwin’s house every time there is a celebration because there are a lot of foods and I can empathize with them because I also like going to birthdays because of the free food but we were not able to come to any of their birthdays because they do not have any grand celebration or if ever they did celebrate it is with their spouses or friends or family only or if they did invite us we can’t come because we are too busy.
